Holocaust Memorial Day 2020
In November 2019, Nikita Stevenson 6H1 and Caitlin Woodhead 6L were chosen to take part in a trip to Auschwitz-Birkenau with the Lessons From Auschwitz project. On the trip they met Aileen Campbell MSP who accompanied the group.
This trip was truly life changing and they gained a new perspective on daily life.
The theme for Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) 2020 was ‘Stand Together’. HMD 2020 marked the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz Birkenau – this is a significant milestone and is made particularly poignant by the dwindling number of survivors who are able to share their testimony. It also marks the 25th anniversary of the Genocide in Bosnia.
The girls took part in the South Lanarkshire Council Commemoration Service at Trinity High School in Rutherglen on 22nd January and were also asked to speak in the Scottish Parliament for Holocaust Memorial Day, in front of the First Minister of Scotland. The First Minister asked to meet with them and said that their speeches were amazing and that they should be proud of their performance.
They will also be conducting assemblies, in school, in the near future.
Well done girls, we are very proud of you both.
