Home Learning Pupil and Parent Information

I hope that this finds you and your families well in these challenging times.

I would wish to reassure everyone that the health and wellbeing of our young people, their families and our staff remains the focus for us at this time. Our schools remain closed, with the exception of the Learning Hubs, providing essential care services for NHS staff, social care and key workers and some of our most vulnerable children. We have no indication yet when this position is likely to change as we await guidance from the Scottish Government.

Our teachers and staff are working from home and continue to engage with learners through Glow/Google Classroom to help keep us all connected during these times.

From Monday 18th May all year groups will move to their next year of learning. This is the same date that the timetable would have changed had we been in normal circumstances. Colleagues have been working hard over the past weeks to set up in Google classroom online resources to facilitate this transition.

Detailed information for each pupil will be emailed to their GLOW accounts on Friday 15th May 2020 and will contain the following information:-

1. Suggested Structure to Support your Learning at Home

Moving to the next stage of learning is complex during this closure period but we would like to reassure you that we will be keeping the established and positive features of our online learning. As a school, we believe a suggested structure of the day gives learners the opportunity to plan their learning which prioritises the wellbeing of learners and families and balances the demands we all have in this challenging time.

We have devised a suggested timetable you could follow but understand that each family’s unique circumstances mean that this may not be possible. It is important to ensure that you keep yourselves well and do what you can. We are fully aware of the demands the young people and families of Carluke High School are facing and we all want you to keep safe and feel supported.

Your parent(s)/carer(s) may already have other things planned for you at home, the balance between school work and other tasks should be agreed between you and your parent(s)/ carer(s).

Suggested outline of a virtual school day

School day: Mon to Thu          School day: Fri
Lesson 1 0930 – 1030 Lesson 1: 0930-1030
Lesson 2 1100 – 1200 Lesson 2: 1100-1200
Lesson 3 1300 – 1400
Lesson 4 1430 – 1530

2. Supporting Home Learning Website

We have also set up Carluke High School’s Supporting Home Learning page which gives information about how to support learning at home and has many useful links including a health and wellbeing section.

3. Suggested Balance of Time Across Your Curriculum

Young people will be using Google Classroom accessed through GLOW for learning and a suggested approach on how you divide your time over the course of the week will be provided for each year group.

PE should be part of your daily exercise and the PE department will post suggested activities for you to do with this time.

The PSE/House Google Classroom will allow learners to make contact with their Pupil Support teacher if required.

Further information

For any young person who does not remember which subjects they chose for S3-S6, please contact Mrs Hope (DHT) by email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or use the ‘Get in Touch’ contact form on the school website stating your child’s name, class and house. We will then get back to you as soon as is practically possible. You can also contact us using the ‘Feedback form’ on the Supporting Home Learning site.

At the current time, we do not know when lockdown will end nor do we know when schools will reopen and in what form a reopening will take. It is therefore vital that all pupils remain engaged in their learning and make use of the digital resources available. If your child is unable to access digital resources, please contact Mrs Hope by email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. so we can investigate how best to support your child in his/her/their learning.

We would like to thank all young people and their families for the ongoing support in these unprecedented times and we look forward to seeing all members of the school community back safely together when we can.
