Expressive Art
S2 pupils will focus on the visual elements of line, texture and form. The approach and subject matter for S2 expressive tasks will vary, however, all tasks will centre around these key visual elements. Pupils will be encouraged to make creative decisions, developing their own creativity as well as their drawing and media-handling abilities.
Pupils will engage in a wide range of practical tasks, developing their skills and understanding of a variety of media and artistic approaches.
Whenever possible, pupils should draw from first-hand sources. Where these are not available, good quality second-hand sources are available within the department, or pupils can be encouraged to source their own.
Design
S2 pupils will engage in design activities which will also link to the key visual elements of line, texture, form and function. Design projects will all follow a three-stage process of research and investigation, development and solution, giving pupils an understanding of the design process for progression to National qualification level.

Art & Design Studies
Pupils will study the work of a minimum of two artists and two designers as stand-alone units of work throughout S2. Additionally, the work of professional artists and designers may also be embedded as part of the practical tasks to enhance practice and deepen understanding of the techniques and processes.
