S1-S3 Broad General Education
Pupils will undertake an English and Literacy course that focuses on the key components of Talking, Listening, Reading and Writing. Reading and Writing are a particular focus and all pupils will be encouraged to read at home and to record this in their Learning Log at school.
This year, Carluke High School will be taking part in the First Minister’s Reading Challenge. More information about what this entails can be found here:
As part of this, we are asking pupils to take part in our very own reading challenge.
A few years ago the Times Educational Supplement asked teachers to put together a list of the top 100 books that every pupil should read before they leave Secondary.
This is what they came up with - Click here
We are asking our pupils to take up this challenge and to try and read as many of these books as they can.
A copy of the Reading Challenge entry form can be downloaded here or else ask your teacher for a copy.
Completed entry forms should be submitted to Miss Lindsay in the English Department.
